Apple Logic Pro 9.1 update - 32-bit Audio Unit compatibility statement

With the new 9.1 update Apple Logic Pro adds a 64-bit mode for Snow Leopard users. In 64-bit mode, Logic Pro can still load 32-bit Audio Units such as Tau Pro and Tau Bassline MkII with its own built in 32-bit bridge software. The update can be downloaded here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL987

After testing the AU bridge today against our range of plugins I'm confident that our customers should have no problem using our 32-bit Audio Units in Logic Pro 9.2 64-bit mode. The following 32-bit Audio Units were tested:-

Computer Music CMplay v1.0
AMG Kick Ass Brass v1.07
AMG ONE v1.04

Tau Pro v2.0.2 released

Official Snow Leopard Compatibility Statement

We have now fully tested Tau Pro and Tau Bassline MkII with Apple Snow Leopard (OSX 10.6.1 specifically) and found the following issues:-

1. Snow Leopard may not immediately detect the plug-ins after installation

We are looking into an issue where Snow Leopard might not detect Tau Pro or Tau 2 after it has been installed. If you have this issue, make sure the component files are correctly installed (in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components) and then reboot your Mac.

2. The current retail version of Tau Pro AU (v2.0) will not work in Logic 9.

As per my previous post on the subject, Tau Pro is not working in Logic 9. However we have implemented and tested a fix that solves this problem. Tau Pro owners will receive an email with upgrade instructions shortly.

3. VST Versions.

There seems to be no similar problem with the VST installers and the plug-ins work fine. Enjoy Tau Pro and Tau 2 in Snow Leopard with your VST host!

Logic 9 - the bug list so far

I've been doing some debugging this week with Logic 9 and the Audio Unit versions of several Muon products.

1. File Save dialog bug - affecting CMplay Audio Unit and other Tachyon-powered products in Logic 9

When attempting to save a file from CMplay in Logic 9 the file save dialog will not allow the user to input a file name - instead, the keyboard input is captured by Logic.

UPDATE - This issue appears to have been fixed in Snow Leopard 10.6.2

2. No Sound bug - affecting Tau Pro Audio Unit in Logic 9 only

When attempting to play a note on Tau Pro via the onscreen or a MIDI keyboard Logic 9 will stop producing any sound. Only way to recover sound is to reboot the Mac.

UPDATE - We have found a fix for this issue and a new version of Tau Pro will be available to customers very soon

What are you up to these days?

I get this question a fair bit, especially at trade shows. After I introduce myself, people with long memories say to me "you're the guy that does that bassline plugin" or even "are you STILL in business?". People with short memories kind of glaze over as they struggle to remember where they may have heard of Muon Software.

The truth is that I spend more of my time writing software for other companies than I do for my own. This is a situation that is certain to change over the next year, but right now I thought it might be cool to link out to a few videos of products I've been working on for the last few years that people might not immediately associate with Muon Software.

So this is not a corporate blog, but rather a platform for me - Dave, the company founder - to expound forth on topics related to the music software industry, software development in general and the process of making music with software.
